Research description
- Effects of cafestol, a potential antidiabetic substance in coffee, in subjects at risk of type 2 diabetes
Coffee consumption is inversely associated with risk of Type-2-diabetes (T2D). I have previously discovered that cafestol, a bioactive substance in coffee, increases insulin secretion from rat beta cells, increases glucose uptake in skeletal muscle cells and postpones development of T2D in a KKAy-mice I an animal intervention study. Now, in my PhD, I investigate potential antidiabetic effects of cafestol in humans at high risk of developing T2D.
