Research description

  • Effect of increased insulin sensitivity on biochemical bone turnover markers and biomechanical bone properties in people with type 2 diabetes. I investigate how changes in insulin sensitivity following exercise affect biochemical bone turnover markers and biomechanical bone properties in people with type 2 diabetes. Type two diabetes increases the risk of bone fracture. However, decreased bone mineral density (BMD) does not sufficiently explain the increased fracture risk in type 2 diabetes and the risk is underestimated when using the standard risk assessment tools. To predict and prevent fractures caused by type 2 diabetes it is therefore important to understand the pathophysiology behind the increased risk of bone fracture.
