RESTOR-EX - Restoring the aged skeletal muscle niche through exercise
Skeletal muscle plays a central role in locomotion and metabolic function. I investigate how aging and exercise alter the skeletal muscle microenvironment, focusing on muscle stem cells and Fibro-Adipogenic Progenitor cells (FAPs).
FAPs are susceptible to age-related changes and are thought to be key regulators of muscle size and function.
This project aims to determine whether exercise can rejuvenate and modify the FAP subset, its function, and its secretory phenotype, which contribute to muscle atrophy and insulin resistance.
