Research description
Optimizing follow-up after pregnancies affected by gestational diabetes - The OPTIMAL study
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the most common medical complication in pregnancy and comes with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Follow-up diabetes testing in general practice is recommended, but adherence is poor.
Considering the increasing prevalence of GDM due to advancing maternal age and BMI, strategies for optimizing follow-up are essential.
We aim to identify the most optimal diabetes test program for women with previous GDM and to uncover barriers in the health care sectors preventing optimal follow up program with general practices to secure early detection of type 2 diabetes.
