Glucocorticoids and circadian rhythms from bedside to bench. Glucocorticoid secretion show a strong circadian rhythm and profoundly impact metabolism. Today, many patients are treated with glucocorticoids in high doses for various illnesses. States of glucocorticoid excess incurs insulin resistance as well as impairing sleep. Worsening of pre-existing diabetes or development of new diabetes are not uncommon during treatment. I investigate how glucocorticoids affect the circadian rhythms present in metabolism in order to further our understanding of a central hormone in metabolism.
