Research titel and description
The metabolic effects of butyrate
Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid produced by our gut microbiome through the fermentation of undigested carbohydrates (fibers) and amino acids. In addition to nourishing the intestinal mucosa, butyrate appears to play a crucial role in gut–brain crosstalk and may influence various metabolic parameters.
I investigate the effects of butyrate on appetite regulation, insulin sensitivity, and lipid metabolism, among others, when administered directly as a food supplement to healthy obese individuals. This research will broaden our understanding of the complex regulation of appetite and metabolism, and their potential role in metabolic disorders such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.
