Research description
-
My research is focused on translational and clinical aspects of mechanisms linking complement activation to the development of vascular complications in diabetes.
-
We have shown that high serum MBL and high coding MBL genotypes are associated with the development of diabetic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in T1DM (Diabetologia 2010) and T2DM (Diabetes Care 2011).
-
In a long-term followup study of patients with T1DM, we demonstrated that high MBL status is associated with increased all-cause mortality (Diabetes Care 2015), and we have shown that ongoing complement activation is associated to the prognosis following AMI in T2DM (Diabetes Care 2012).
