Research description

  • The associations of endocrine therapy for metastatic breast cancer and body composition

We aim to solve the obesity paradox in breast cancer by utilizing new technologies for diagnostic imaging analysis. Obesity is associated with increased risk of primary and recurrent breast cancer. However, BMI has not shown a consistent association with prognosis in metastatic breast cancer. We utilize the extensive amount of medical imaging that patients with metastatic breast cancer have performed, to accurately measure volumes and distribution of adipose tissue and correlate these measures with prognosis. We are interested in the interaction of obesity, metabolism, and cancer prognosis in the context of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer treated with endocrine therapy.
