Project
The Lactate Project: Lactate to preserve vital organ blood supply and function in heart and brain
Description
I investigate the effects of lactate on the heart and the brain’s metabolism compared to other energy sources and the gastrointestinal effects of lactate on hormone secretion etc.
Research indicates that lactate may have significant physiological effects on major organs, including heart and brain function and the gastrointestinal tract.
Considering the wide clinical use of lactate solutions, i.e. Ringer lactate, as volume expansion and fluid replacement, especially in the emergency room and intensive care unit, a better understanding of the kinetics, dynamics and pathophysiological effects of increased plasma lactate concentrations in humans is warranted.
