New project investigates early onset type 2-diabetes

An increasing number of young adults are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and they are often affected more severely than older adults with the disease. They live longer with the condition, experience more complications, and are impacted during a crucial life stage involving education, work, and family formation.

At the same time, we lack sufficient knowledge because young adults are rarely included in the clinical studies on which treatment guidelines are based.

We want to establish a new multidisciplinary research and innovation program working to identify and understand the biological, environmental, and social mechanisms driving disease burden, comorbidities, and reduced quality of life in individuals with EoT2D.

Overall, the objective is to generate new knowledge and to develop new solutions and models that can be implemented in diabetes care.
