Medical/Steno Research Laboratory (M-Lab) is a highly specialised clinical research lab with a distinct focus on metabolism, diabetes, endocrinology, adiposity and nutrition.
- We carry out advanced “state-of-the-art” metabolic studies in patients and healthy subjects.
- We conduct invasive, mechanistic clinical trials to identify physiology, disease processes and effects of treatments.
- We develop hormone and metabolite analyses to improve biological understanding, diagnosing and treatment.
- We forge and advance cell and tissue models to define and understand cellular processes of diseases.
- We conduct clinical research trials employing biomarkers for identification of late diabetic complications and cardiovascular disease.
Medical/Steno Research Laboratory focus on patient safety and high-quality data, and comply with all pertinent national/international guidelines.

Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus hosts a satellite unit of Aarhus University’s FACS Core Facility in lab A401-126. The laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art 5-laser Bigfoot cell sorter and a 5-laser NovoCyte Penteon flow cytometer. Highly skilled personnel trains and assists users in flow cytometry and cell sorting.
The FACS Core Facility at Aarhus University was founded in 2010. Spring 2023 a satellite unit at SDCA will provide easier access to high-end flow cytometry and cell sorting for researchers at Aarhus University Hospital and companies.
The facility will be staffed mainly Wednesdays and Thursdays, however, upon request other weekdays are possible. Once trained, the instruments may be used 24/7. For more information about the equipment, booking, staff, etc. please go to: www.facs.au.dk

Facilities
5-laser Bigfoot cell sorter inside a biosafety cabinet (349, 405, 488, 561 and 640 nm lasers). Can sort into 96- or 384-well plates, PCR tubes, Eppendorf tubes, 5-, 15, and 50-ml tubes. Up to 6 different populations can be sorted simultaneously.
5-laser NovoCyte Penteon flow cytometer (349, 405, 488, 561 and 637 nm lasers) can be used to analyze your cells of interest. The instrument has 28 fluorescence detectors distributes over the 5 lasers, allowing large flexibility in panel design.
Competences
- Best in class instrumentation for both cell sorting and flow cytometri analysis
- International recognized core facility (ISAC recognized 2022)
- Dedicated staff and training
